Serock is a most dynamically developing town which is the administrative, trade and service centre of the commune. The commune is a place where two great river routes meet – the Bug River and the Narew River. In the Medieval times they played a significant role in the town foundation which later became an administrative centre. Banking up of the rivers gave birth to the creation of Zegrzyński Bay which provided excellent conditions for recreation, tourism development, practicing water sports and angling. Furthermore, it determined the direction of the town and commune development.
On a high embankment, along the shoreline of Zegrzyński Bay there are situated 20 training and recreation centres with 2000 accommodation places and about 4500 recreation garden plots, whose owners come here to relax at the weekends or in the summer. Due to an enormous amount of tourists and holidaymakers, Serock and the nearby villages gained the status of a holiday resort.
In the 90s, local authorities’ efforts made it possible for Serock to change its character significantly. Within a few years the old-town urban layout was restored. New tenements and a town hall were built, the market square was renovated and the walking trails were prepared; thus Serock can be perceived by the visitors as a clean and charming town. It was all followed by an intensive economic development; not only were the inhabitants’ living standards improved but also the aesthetic qualities were taken care of.
Clean natural environment, environmentally friendly industry, beautiful landscapes and exciting sites are among the chief assets of Serock. What is more, the fact that the town is situated relatively close to the capital city – Warsaw – makes it possible for many people to find here a nice and quiet place for relaxation all year round.
